Trade Compliance Manager – Chemicals Trade Control

About the role

The Trade Compliance Manager for Chemicals Trade Control will lead BASF’s global standards and compliance framework for chemical trade. You will ensure that all business transactions are compliant, documented and audit‑ready across the BASF Group.

Key responsibilities

• Own and continuously update the corporate requirement on Chemicals Trade Control for BASF SE and all group companies.
• Develop a risk‑based roadmap, monitor political developments and act as a radar for new trade restrictions.
• Collaborate with other cluster leads and global topic owners to define guardrails and avoid duplication of effort.
• Serve as the main liaison for internal stakeholders, including regional trade compliance teams and business units.
• Design and implement a warehousing concept for trade‑compliant goods and lead its rollout.
• Monitor and interpret changes to international conventions such as the Rotterdam, Basel, UN Drug Precursors, UN Narcotic Drugs, Montreal Protocol and CITES.
• Establish global compliance procedures, ensure audit‑readiness, and oversee reporting obligations.
• Represent BASF in industry associations and act as a classification expert for trade laws.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in global trade compliance, preferably within the chemicals sector.
• Deep knowledge of international trade conventions and regulations.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical skills for risk assessment and control effectiveness reviews.
