Head of Investment - General Account Investments Asia

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Head of Investment for its General Account Investments Asia team in Kuala Lumpur. The Head of Investments manages the investment portfolio in line with approved strategies, regulatory requirements and internal guidelines, acting as a trusted asset adviser to regulators, boards and local teams while delivering risk-adjusted returns and performance oversight. The role works closely with the general account investment desks and other functions at business unit, regional and group levels.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret local macroeconomic and market trends within the emerging markets team, updating investment and risk management strategies
• Oversee risk-adjusted returns, manager selection and performance monitoring of the portfolio
• Guide the organisation on alternative long-duration assets and support marketing and product development with investment insights
• Lead the Investment Committee and support the Asset Liability Management Committee and Board Committee, presenting updates and performance
• Recommend and implement changes to investment guidelines and policies
• Contribute to competitor analysis through industry trend and market surveillance
• Lead cross-functional teams and liaise with actuarial, finance, legal, tax and product functions, covering capital review, surveillance and compliance across reinsured portfolios
• Act as investment representative to peers and external stakeholders, and oversee investment outsourcing including SLAs

Required profile

• 15+ years of investment experience in insurance or institutional asset management
• University degree in investment, finance, economics or another relevant quantitative discipline
• Experience in multi-asset class investments and active involvement in asset and liability management
• Self-starter, proactive and mature leader able to work in a remote reporting setting
