Country Chief Accountant (Japanese Speaker)

About the role

Roche is hiring a Country Chief Accountant based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, who speaks Japanese. The role co-ordinates with the SSC KL Finance teams (AP, GAMA, AR, TR, T&E, Compliance and Procurement) and ensures timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing. It covers financial reporting, internal controls, management accounting, receivables, payables, treasury and master data.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with SSC KL Finance teams and run month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing according to the month-end close checklist.
• Analyse profit and loss and balance sheet accounts and own the financial accuracy of the affiliate's financials.
• Own the ICFR documentation and tools (INVOLVE and BWI).
• Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, follow up open items and fix anomalies.
• Submit sustainability and insurance reporting packages on time.
• Handle IFRS 16 leasing matters (SimSol / Planon) and approve manual journal entries posted by the SSC KL team.
• Manage period cost allocation, COPA allocation and SSC allocation.
• Approve manual billings, review debtor ageing and follow up on receivables; approve vendor invoices and payments for payables.
• Forecast cash flows, manage FX deals, credit facilities, payment requests and banking matters.
• Manage master data such as chart of accounts, cost and profit centers, WBS, vendors and customers.
• Prepare statutory tax calculations and audit schedules, liaise with the tax consultant and auditor, and take part in compliance audits.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities and act as main contact for finance issues with SSC KL and the affiliate's FM.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or equivalent; ACCA, CPA Australia or similar is an added advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field, including at least 3 years in an accountant or audit role.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, audit and taxation.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and influence skills; able to work across cultures and commit to business travel when required.
• Proficiency in English and Japanese is an added advantage.
