Surety Underwriting Assistant Manager

About the role

Zurich is looking for a Surety Underwriting Assistant Manager in Kuala Lumpur. The role provides technical underwriting expertise and guidance to Business Units and Underwriters, under direct supervision and specialising in a line of business or product line, so that business plans can be achieved and excellent customer service delivered.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to underwriting strategies (e.g. pricing) and solutions (e.g. product development, underwriting tools and processes) for a portfolio, line of business or product line.
• Develop knowledge of the product line and industry, and monitor underwriting strategy against performance metrics, data and insights.
• Operate within the organisation's risk policy, global underwriting policy and underwriting governance policies.
• Help develop technical underwriting guidelines, best practices, controls and procedures, and support the technical underwriting review process.
• Work on low-to-moderate complexity projects, handle queries within delegated authority and resolve technical problems by referring to policies, procedures and specifications.
• Support portfolio management, including analysis of profitability and growth, and monitor technical price accuracy and support technical price certification.
• Take part in compliance-related queries, including regulatory exams and insurance department inquiries, and anticipate and respond to customer needs.
• Provide status updates, compare alternatives for improving procedures or products, give recommendations and contribute to technical standards, training content and underwriting technical training.
• Analyse project performance and customer service levels using standard reporting tools, and advise internal clients on procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in claims or underwriting, OR
• High school diploma or equivalent and 4+ years of experience in claims or underwriting, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 2+ years of experience in claims or underwriting.
• Preferred: strong listening, verbal and written communication skills and insurance industry experience.
