Legal Counsel – Software Piracy & License Compliance (12‑month FTC)

About the role

AVEVA is seeking a Legal Counsel on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to support its Global Legal Operations team in Malaysia. The role focuses on software piracy investigations, license compliance audits and occasional commercial dispute litigation, working closely with the Legal Director based in Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Provide support to the global license compliance audit (ALC) team and software piracy investigations.
• Assist the Legal Director with escalations, including litigation, enforcement actions, settlements and resolution of complex matters.
• Conduct risk assessments, identify key issues and prepare early mitigation strategies for review.
• Draft instructions to external counsel, prepare internal advice on risks and exposure, and negotiate settlement terms.
• Review contracts for audit rights and remedies, particularly legacy agreements.
• Prepare NDAs, legal breach notices and communications for audit engagements with customers.
• Support the ALC and Sales teams in settlement and resolution of non‑complex matters, including drafting commercial terms.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with experience in software piracy, license compliance or commercial dispute matters.
• Strong analytical and risk‑assessment abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with global stakeholders across APAC and other regions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
