Customs Asia Pacific Executive (Mandarin Speaker)

About the role

BASF's Customs Operations Asia Pacific (Executive) is based at the Kuala Lumpur Asia Pacific Service Centre and handles customs-related activities for BASF companies across the region. The role supports hub operations, trade compliance and supply chain service requests, and requires fluent English and Mandarin.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver customs services to business, including duty review and analysis, and support business unit queries.
• Support hub operations: import/export documentation, issuance and verification, and basic HS code and duty rate maintenance in SAP or a custom database.
• Perform customs duty reconciliation, validation and allocation, and review import documents for accuracy and compliance with customs laws.
• Manage the service mailbox and SharePoint/Teams folders, including access, retention and record keeping.
• Prepare monthly statistics and KPI reports, monitor service provider performance and schedule regular meetings.
• Keep up with regulatory changes, support dashboards and reporting standardisation, and automate routine data collection.
• Support process documentation (SOPs, work guides, work instructions) and process improvement projects.
• Resolve customs issues such as delayed shipments, missing documents and tariff classification mismatches.
• Support customs compliance assessments, audits and documentation, and ensure compliance with customs regulations and trade laws.
• Support digitalisation, system upgrades and automation of customs processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, preferably Supply Chain Management, Business & Finance.
• Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in customs and foreign trade; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Experience with customs, trade law and practices for chemical and non-chemical products is desirable.
• Fluent English and Mandarin (mandatory).

Required skills

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Good analytical and work management skills.
• Good knowledge of SAP and SAP GTS is highly desirable.
