Software Engineer for Data Transparency

About the role

Join BASF’s Digital Hub in Kuala Lumpur as a Software Engineer on the Data Transparency team. You will help build the technical foundation that enables users to find, discover and consume data across the company, focusing on APIs that connect the Data Catalog with other data and AI platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs in Python to enable scalable system integrations.
• Define and implement API standards, authentication (OAuth2, OpenID Connect), versioning, and observability to ensure reliable and secure data access.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and release procedures for APIs and data‑related automation, emphasizing safe deployments and rollbacks.
• Support the evaluation and integration of AI‑enabled services that enhance metadata management, searchability, and user experience.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Strong Python development experience, particularly with Django and Django REST Framework, building production‑grade RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of API design principles, including OpenAPI specifications, authentication, versioning, rate limiting and monitoring.
• Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional environment.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
