Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer

About the role

Manulife is looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to lead the design, development and delivery of enterprise digital solutions. The role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, AI-assisted development, quality engineering and end-to-end project delivery, and involves leading a team of 3-5 software engineers. It remains hands-on in solution design, code review, troubleshooting and technical decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Solution design and architecture: lead end-to-end design of digital applications, integrations, APIs and platform enhancements; write architecture documents, API specs and data models; ensure compliance with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, data protection and governance; run design reviews.
• Technical leadership: mentor and guide 3-5 engineers, allocate work, conduct code and design reviews, promote knowledge sharing and build team capability.
• Project delivery: lead technical delivery from requirements to production stabilization, manage multiple projects and technical risks, and work with Product Owners, QA, security, operations and vendors.
• Full-stack development: build secure web apps with front-end (Angular, React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and back-end (Java, Spring Boot) technologies, optimise databases and create reusable components.
• AI-assisted development and testing: use approved AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot responsibly, and drive automated testing with tools such as Katalon, Selenium, Playwright and Postman.
• DevOps, security and governance: support CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, secure coding, vulnerability management, logging and monitoring, and maintain technical documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or a related field.
• 5-8 years of software development experience across front-end, back-end, integration and database technologies.
• Proven experience in solution design, system architecture and technical documentation.
• Experience leading 3-5 team members and delivering enterprise applications with Agile or iterative methods.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience in life insurance or financial services, including regulatory considerations.
• Cloud-native applications or modernization projects, and exposure to enterprise architecture and security governance.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, risk, audit, privacy and data protection.
• DevSecOps, platform engineering, observability, vendor delivery and Responsible AI experience.
