Ports and Maritime Manager – Malaysia

About the role

The Ports and Maritime Manager will lead Surbana Jurong/SMEC’s growth in Malaysia’s port and maritime sector. You will shape business strategy, engage key clients, and oversee delivery of complex engineering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop business plan and strategy to enhance company presence in the Malaysian port and maritime market.
• Collaborate with sub‑regional lead on budgeting and marketing strategy within approved budgets.
• Engage and build relationships with port and maritime clients, presenting SJ/SMEC capabilities.
• Lead vendor registration, bid management, and tender submissions, coordinating internal approvals.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and draftspersons, acting as project manager and reviewer.
• Ensure all engineering work complies with statutory standards, regulations, and codes of practice.
• Support sub‑regional lead with internal reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering).
• 12‑15 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in coastal/port development projects in Malaysia.
• Proven experience in business development, tender preparation, and client relationship management.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport.
