Legal Counsel & Data Privacy Assistant Manager

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Legal Counsel and Data Privacy Assistant Manager to join Zurich’s Legal team in Malaysia. The role combines practical legal support with responsibility for data protection compliance, working closely with cross‑functional stakeholders to safeguard the business and its customers.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documents, ensuring legal soundness and risk mitigation.
• Provide business‑focused legal advice on operational, commercial, insurance and takaful matters in line with Zurich’s policies.
• Partner with stakeholders to support contract negotiations and ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal governance.
• Contribute legal expertise to company projects and broader business initiatives.
• Support implementation and maintenance of data protection governance frameworks, including DPIAs, privacy reviews and compliance documentation.
• Assist with incident management, internal escalation processes and preparation of data protection reports for management and regulators.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an in-house legal role, with at least 2 years focused on data privacy.
• Experience in data protection, privacy compliance and contract law, with knowledge of Malaysian PDPA and global privacy standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, proactive and organized with a collaborative mindset.
• Fluent in English; Bahasa Malaysia is an advantage.
• Degree in Law; professional certifications in data privacy are a plus.
