Engineering Manager - Ride Hailing Platform

About the role

AirAsia MOVE, a budget travel platform owned by Capital A, is hiring an Engineering Manager for its ride-hailing platform in Kuala Lumpur. The role leads cross-functional engineering squads covering mobile (React Native), backend (Node.js), real-time services, job assignments, payments and operational tooling. It combines people management, technical direction and delivery ownership so that riders and drivers get a seamless, reliable experience.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, coach and grow a team of software engineers across mobile, backend and QA, including career development, performance reviews and growth planning.
• Provide architectural guidance for real-time systems and set standards for coding, testing, observability and secure development.
• Drive technical standards across React Native apps, backend services, APIs and infrastructure, working with platform, data and infra teams.
• Own sprint planning, backlog prioritisation and release management; monitor SLAs such as availability, latency, booking success rate and error budgets.
• Ensure smooth app updates, backend deployments and CI/CD pipelines, partnering with QA, SRE and Ops teams.
• Work with Product, Ops and Design on feature delivery, and with Operations and business stakeholders on driver supply, rider demand and marketplace efficiency.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in leadership (Tech Lead, EM or equivalent).
• Experience leading cross-functional teams delivering consumer-grade apps or platforms at scale.
• Proven track record managing real-time, transactional or high-availability systems.
• Preferred: prior experience in ride-hailing, mobility, logistics or two-sided marketplaces, and knowledge of payment systems, fraud prevention and regulatory compliance.

Required skills

• Mobile (React Native) and/or backend (Node.js, Java or equivalent)
• CI/CD, monitoring and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS)
• Preferred: microservices, event-driven architectures, data streaming, marketplace algorithms and superapp ecosystems
