Legal Counsel – Asia (Japan & Korea)

About the role

LexisNexis, part of RELX, is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its North Asia businesses, primarily Japan and Korea, as well as global product lines. Reporting to the Head of Legal – Asia, the role provides high‑quality, commercially focused legal advice while collaborating with teams across APAC, the US and Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, accurate and concise legal advice that protects business interests.
• Monitor legal, regulatory and policy developments and advise on risk‑based solutions.
• Participate in Legal Department planning and help achieve compliance and strategic objectives.
• Conduct training sessions and legal clinics for business stakeholders.
• Manage expectations, prioritize multiple high‑urgency matters and work with outsourced partners.
• Advise on contracts, technology, IP, content, regulatory, dispute, government tender and procurement issues.
• Escalate material legal, regulatory, financial or reputational risks to the Head of Legal – Asia.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer in Malaysia or another recognised common‑law jurisdiction.
• Minimum 5+ years post‑qualification experience.
• Background in a law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Experience in commercial, corporate, litigation or IT/IP law.

• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑regional team.
