Legal Counsel – Asia (Japan & Korea focus)

About the role

The Legal Counsel will report directly to the Head of Legal – Asia and provide legal support for North Asia businesses, especially in Japan and Korea, as well as global product lines and overflow work across the APAC region.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely, accurate, and commercially focused legal advice to protect business interests.
• Monitor legal, regulatory and policy developments and advise on risk‑based solutions.
• Collaborate with legal teams across APAC, the US and Europe and with outsourced partners.
• Escalate material legal, regulatory, financial or reputational risks to the Head of Legal – Asia.
• Provide training, conduct legal clinics and support business units on contractual, technology, IP, content, regulatory and dispute matters.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer in Malaysia or another recognised common‑law jurisdiction.
• Minimum 5+ years post‑qualification experience.
• Background in a law firm or in‑house legal department, with exposure to commercial, corporate, litigation or IT/IP law.

Required skills

• Strong commercial acumen and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple high‑priority matters with short lead times.
