Telecom Engineer (Consultant) – Johor Bahru, Malaysia

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Telecom Engineer to join our Technology Solutions team in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The role is a full‑time consultancy position employed by Brunel and embedded within the Semco Maritime Technology Solutions department, supporting oil & gas projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop telecommunication systems covering radio communication, security, navigation aids and wired communication.
• Prepare detailed drawings, specifications and bulk material listings for equipment procurement.
• Select appropriate telecom equipment and create system diagrams, schematics and installation plans.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, assist the Project Manager/Lead Engineer and ensure smooth project implementation.
• Participate in all engineering phases from feasibility to detailed design, interpret client and authority requirements and support certification processes.
• Attend customer visits, technical meetings and provide technical input for reports and weight calculations.

Required profile

• Local Malaysian candidate with proven experience as a Telecom Engineer in the oil & gas or related energy sector.
• Ability to analyse business demands, align priorities with project objectives and communicate technical solutions to stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Semco Maritime’s business model and value chain is advantageous.

• Radio Communication Systems – GMDSS, Microwave Radio, SCADA Radio, Trunked Radio, Crane Radio, Radio Dispatch, Satellite Phone.
• Security Systems – Access Control, CCTV, Intrusion Detection, PABX (VoIP), Person On Board (POB).
• Navigation Aids – Radar, ECDIS, Auto Pilot, AIS, DGPS, LRIT, Compass, Echo Sounder, Speed Log, VDR, Navigation & Obstruction Lights, RACON, Fog Horn, BNWAS, VSAT, Entertainment System, EMS.
• Wired Communication – PAGA, Page Party, Talk Back, Smart Series, Driller, PABX (Analog), Sound‑Powered Phone System.
