Senior Technician, Utilities Grade 1

About the role

The Senior Technician, Utilities Grade 1 is responsible for operating and maintaining BASF's utilities plants at the Pasir Gudang site. This role ensures reliable supply of water, steam, compressed air and nitrogen while supporting plant safety and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain treated water storage, de‑mineralisation, cooling water and fire‑hydrant systems.
• Run steam generation plants and distribution networks.
• Manage air compressors, compressed‑air supply and nitrogen membrane generators, including storage and evaporation units.
• Control the diesel‑engine emergency generator during power outages.
• Record daily stock levels, consumption of utilities raw materials and supply figures in computerized log sheets.
• Keep utilities plants and material storage areas clean and orderly.
• Assist maintenance craftsmen during major overhauls or plant shutdowns.
• Support the factory Emergency Response Plan, fire‑fighting and other emergency tasks as required.

Required profile

• SPM (minimum grade 2) with English pass, or three years experience in a boiler house with 1st‑grade boiler‑man certification and Engine Driver Grade 1.
• Strong knowledge of utilities plants such as de‑mineralisation, air compression and nitrogen generation.
• In‑depth technical understanding of boiler operation, equipment design, limitations and safety features.
• Familiarity with local regulations governing boiler and utilities operation.
• Proficiency in using standard computer applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
