Senior Geophysicist

About the role

Ad Terra is seeking a Senior Geophysicist to lead seismic exploration and interpretation from data acquisition through to the geophysical analyses that drive drilling decisions. The role combines deep expertise in seismic workflows with a drive to integrate AI‑assisted tools for next‑generation subsurface intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee seismic data acquisition plans, define measurement methods and adapt collection techniques.
• Process, quality‑control, and organise seismic datasets using industry‑standard software.
• Interpret 2D/3D seismic data, build and test geological models, map structures and run forecasts.
• Develop and pilot AI/ML‑enhanced workflows such as automated fault picking, denoising and facies classification.
• Document progress, maintain timesheets and produce technical reports, maps and presentations for managers and clients.

Required profile

• University degree (MSc or PhD) in Geology, Geophysics or related field.
• 8–12 years of hands‑on oil & gas exploration or development experience.
• Strong understanding of rock physics, AVO and inversion processes, and familiarity with PETRONAS Technical Standards is a plus.
• Excellent communication, presentation and numerical skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Matlab or Python and Bash/shell scripting.
• Experience with AI/ML tools for seismic interpretation (e.g., automated picking, denoising).
• Knowledge of seismic processing packages such as Seismic Unix, Madagascar, Promax, SeisSpace, Omega, OpendTect, RadExPro, Reveal, Petrel.
• Competence in 2D/3D seismic interpretation, velocity modelling and structural mapping.
