About the role
The Mechanical Inspector of Works will ensure that all mechanical installations on site comply with approved drawings, specifications, and Malaysian safety standards. Working closely with the Resident Engineer, you will help deliver high‑quality mechanical services across multiple projects.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out daily site inspections of mechanical works, verifying compliance with drawings, specifications, and local codes.
- Monitor quality of workmanship and materials, ensuring QA/QC requirements are met.
- Review and comment on mechanical drawings, shop drawings, method statements and material submissions.
- Witness and document testing, commissioning and hand‑over activities for all mechanical systems.
- Supervise installation of HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, hydraulic, fuel, BMS/BAS and other utility systems.
- Identify non‑conformances, issue site instructions and follow up corrective actions.
- Assist in progress claim evaluations, variation assessments and verify contractor progress.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspection reports, daily diaries and as‑built documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers, consultants, contractors and authorities to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure all work follows company HSE standards and obtain necessary permits.
Required profile
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia as an Inspector of Works (Mechanical) or Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of site supervision experience in mechanical services for industrial, commercial or mission‑critical projects.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building services: HVAC, fire protection, plumbing & sanitary, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum, hydraulic, fuel systems, BMS/BAS.
- Familiarity with Malaysian codes, standards and authority requirements.
- Experience with QA/QC processes, inspection reporting and commissioning procedures.
