Senior Coastal Engineer (Structural)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Coastal Engineer (Structural) to join Surbana Jurong’s SMEC Kuala Lumpur office. The role supports planning and design of civil engineering projects such as land reclamation, ports, and other coastal structures, both locally and overseas.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the team in planning and designing civil engineering works, including land reclamation, port construction, and other coastal structures.
• Design and analyse quay walls, jetties, revetments, deep and shallow foundations, retaining systems, soil improvement measures and instrumentation.
• Prepare and review technical calculations, reports, drawings and specifications.
• Manage sub‑contracts such as soil investigation, accredited checker and biodiversity contracts.
• Supervise both design and site activities to ensure quality and compliance.
• Ensure all engineering works meet relevant statutory standards, regulations and codes of practice.
• Support tender submissions and project pursuit activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering recognised by regulatory bodies.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design of reclamation projects (advantageous).
• Extensive experience in coastal, marine, geotechnical, civil & structural, infrastructure or reclamation projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Team player, able to multitask, disciplined, self‑motivated and resourceful.

Required skills

• Proficiency in StaadPro.
• Familiarity with Prokon.
• Good command of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
