Senior Civil Engineer (Hydrology & Hydraulic Modeller)

About the role

Join Aurecon as a Senior Civil Engineer focused on hydrology and hydraulic modelling. You will lead studies for river, stormwater, drainage, flood‑risk and water‑resources projects across Malaysia, delivering technical assessments, flood maps and design recommendations that meet local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, calibrate, validate and maintain 1D and 2D hydrological and hydraulic models for rivers, catchments, urban drainage networks and floodplains.
• Perform rainfall‑runoff, flood frequency and peak‑flow analyses for multiple return periods.
• Model urban stormwater and drainage for residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure developments.
• Prepare existing‑condition and proposed‑condition models to assess development impacts on drainage capacity and flood levels.
• Produce flood inundation, depth, velocity, hazard and extent maps using GIS.
• Recommend flood mitigation measures such as drainage upgrades, detention/retention ponds, river improvements and hydraulic structure upgrades.
• Incorporate climate‑change and future‑development scenarios where required.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and infrastructure teams to integrate modelling results into design.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors and Malaysian authorities (e.g., Department of Irrigation and Drainage).
• Prepare technical reports, methodology documents, calculations, drawings and presentation materials.

Required profile

• Senior‑level civil engineering professional with extensive experience in hydrological and hydraulic modelling.
• Familiarity with Malaysian guidelines and requirements for flood‑risk and drainage projects.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary design teams and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Hydrological modelling (rainfall‑runoff, flood frequency, design storm analysis).
• Hydraulic modelling – 1D and 2D (rivers, floodplains, culverts, bridges, detention ponds).
• GIS for flood mapping and spatial analysis.
• LiDAR and topographic data processing.
• Climate‑change scenario integration.
• Technical report writing and presentation preparation.
