Project Controller – Finance & Cost Management

About the role

The Project Controller will oversee financial performance of engineering and infrastructure projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, budgeting and profitability. This role supports the project team in financial reporting, invoicing and compliance with internal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor project budgets, work‑in‑progress, estimate at completion (EAC), estimate to complete (ETC), profitability and outstanding debtors.
• Set up and maintain project financial records in accordance with SMEC policies and approval processes.
• Prepare and maintain accurate project financial data for reporting, forecasting, budgeting and re‑planning.
• Support preparation and review of intercompany, sub‑consultancy and joint‑venture agreements.
• Prepare client invoices, track payment status and follow up on receivables.
• Coordinate weekly timesheet submissions with project team members.
• Maintain audit‑ready project documentation complying with BMS, QMS and OH&S requirements.
• Identify and escalate financial issues to relevant stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–7 years of experience in project controls, project finance or project‑based consultancy environments.
• Experience supporting engineering, infrastructure, construction or consulting projects is highly desirable.
• Immediate or short‑notice availability is preferred.
