Petrophysicist

About the role

The Petrophysicist will evaluate rock properties and formation fluids throughout the reservoir life‑cycle, from log and core analysis to reserve modelling. You will combine rigorous petrophysical judgment with emerging AI‑assisted interpretation tools to support client decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and adapt well data acquisition plans and logging methods.
• Process, quality‑control, and organise well data for petrophysical interpretation.
• Analyse wireline logs, core data and seismic attributes; build petrophysical and geo‑mechanical models.
• Perform volumetric calculations, borehole imagery interpretation and fluid‑behavior simulations.
• Develop and pilot AI/ML workflows for log QC, facies prediction and automated interpretation.
• Document progress, produce reports, maps and presentations for managers, clients and partners.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• 2‑5 years of hands‑on oil & gas experience, including petrophysical interpretation.
• Strong knowledge of petrophysical principles, PETRONAS Technical Standards and Malaysian upstream regulations (advantageous).
• Excellent communication, presentation and numerical skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure with a systematic, methodical approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with petrophysical software such as Petrel, Geolog and Techlog.
• Python scripting and experience with AI/ML tools for log QC and facies prediction.
• Microsoft Office Suite.
