About the role

The Technical Underwriter provides expert technical underwriting expertise and guidance to underwriters within their domain, typically a regional, medium to large-sized country market segment. They pre‑emptively consider emerging risks and trends and inform underwriting strategy, leveraging deep knowledge of the relevant lines of business.

Key responsibilities

• Drive implementation of strategies and risk appetite changes, managing stakeholder relationships to ensure technical standards are adhered to.
• Lead high‑impact operational transformation initiatives, define assurance activities, develop technical underwriting guidelines and best practices.
• Monitor and control allocated human and material resources for projects and initiatives.
• Handle complex queries and Requests for Empowerment, providing expert support to underwriters.
• Assist with approval of terms and conditions and resolve line‑of‑business or cross‑line issues to enable profitable business.
• Diagnose and develop cost‑effective proposals for complex problems, recommend strategic direction and identify innovative opportunities and risks.
• Contribute to creation of new products and adapt to external environment changes.
