Failure Analysis Hardware Validation Engineer

About the role

The Product Diagnostic & Quality Center (PDQC) at NXP is looking for an experienced Hardware Validation Engineer to validate electrical test hardware used in product failure analysis. The role verifies board design quality using translated test patterns, troubleshoots hardware issues, debugs test patterns and flows, and documents results in detailed reports. It works closely with the Failure Analysis Enablement (FAE), Hardware Design, Test Engineering and Failure Analysis teams. The team supports NXP products globally, from development to end-of-life.

Key responsibilities

• Validate electrical test hardware to ensure accuracy and reliability for product analysis
• Ensure test patterns and board designs meet validation standards
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and setup issues to optimise performance
• Document validation results and findings in comprehensive reports
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple NXP locations to drive hardware validation and release

Required profile

• Solid background in test engineering, including hardware validation methodologies
• Hands-on experience with digital semiconductor testers and auxiliaries (Advantest Exascale, Cohu Diamond 10, oscilloscopes, high-voltage supplies)
• Ability to read schematics and interpret board layouts, socket profiles and package drawings
• Practical experience in a high-tech environment, especially in New Product Introduction (NPI)
• Team collaboration and excellent communication and report-writing skills

Required skills

• Debugging test patterns, understanding test flows and ATE testing
• Tester supply resources, load boards and socket boards for Failure Analysis
• Scripting: Python, C++, Java, NI LabVIEW, Linux shell scripting
• Communication protocols: JTAG, SPI, I2C; operating systems: Windows, Linux
• Advantageous: test program execution, shmoo plots, ATPG, scan testing, memory BIST and bitmapping
• Advantageous: basic knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word
