Failure Analysis Engineer

About the role

NXP Semiconductors is looking for a Failure Analysis Engineer in Kuala Lumpur to ensure the quality and reliability of its semiconductor products. The engineer investigates and identifies the root causes of device failures, helping improve products and satisfy customers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed electrical failure analysis on advanced semiconductor devices, including microcontrollers, processors and analog circuits.
• Use analytical techniques and equipment such as SEM/EDX, OBIRCH, emission microscopy and electrical fault-isolation and debug tools.
• Develop and implement new failure analysis methods for emerging technologies and failure modes.
• Work with design, product, test and reliability teams to deliver timely failure analysis reports and corrective actions.
• Document results with observations, conclusions and recommended solutions.
• Take part in cross-functional teams driving continuous improvement in product quality, manufacturing and design.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians and stay current with failure analysis technology and semiconductor device physics.

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related field.
• Proven experience of more than 2 years in semiconductor failure analysis in a high-volume manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of semiconductor device physics, processing and packaging.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to root-cause analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to explain complex technical information clearly.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• Fresh graduates with strong fundamentals are also encouraged to apply.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with failure analysis tools such as SEM/EDX, PEM, LIT, OBIRCH and LVP/EOP.
• Electrical debug and characterization, including curve tracing, logic analysis and oscilloscope use.
• Statistical analysis tools and methodologies are a plus.
