EHS Specialist – Workplace Safety & Compliance

About the role

The EHS Specialist will support the implementation and continuous improvement of workplace safety programs, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness and EHS initiatives for BASF’s Asia‑Pacific Service Centre (KL Hub) and Malaysia office.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the Workplace Safety focal point for the KL Hub and Malaysia office, ensuring compliance with BASF standards, local regulations and corporate EHS policies.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, emergency response plans and risk‑management guidelines.
• Coordinate statutory and corporate EHS reporting and audits (e.g., DOSH, REHSA), monitor safety performance and drive timely closure of findings.
• Maintain safety and training records, certifications, inspection reports and other compliance documentation.
• Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, safety inspections and investigations of incidents, near‑misses and unsafe conditions, performing root‑cause analysis and tracking corrective actions.
• Oversee the maintenance and readiness of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, first‑aid kits and other emergency equipment.
• Manage IAQ, environmental monitoring and workplace hygiene assessments in collaboration with building management and service providers.
• Lead emergency preparedness activities, including drills, crisis simulations, Emergency Response Team coordination and business‑resilience planning.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Proven experience in workplace safety and EHS compliance within an industrial or corporate environment.
• Strong knowledge of Malaysian occupational safety regulations (DOSH, REHSA) and international EHS standards.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations and root‑cause analyses.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
