Finance Controller

About the role

The Finance Controller leads financial control, reporting and governance across the business. The role ensures that financial information is accurate, timely and useful for decision-making, supports compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements and internal policies, and works with colleagues across Finance and the wider organisation to strengthen financial processes and manage key reporting cycles.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate, timely financial records, management reporting and statutory financial statements.
• Oversee regulatory reporting, maintain financial controls, accounting policies and audit trails, and ensure compliance with Malaysian regulatory and accounting requirements.
• Manage the general ledger, reconciliations and key accounting judgments, and coordinate internal and external audits while resolving audit findings on time.
• Work with actuarial, risk, compliance, tax and business teams to provide financial insights, variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and support regulatory and accounting changes.
• Lead and develop the finance team, drive process improvements, automation and data quality, and foster accountability, governance and ethical conduct.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a recognised professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, ICAEW or CIMA.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, controllership, audit and financial close, ideally in insurance, financial services or another regulated industry.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams and work with stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of financial reporting standards, statutory reporting and Malaysian regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with MFRS 17 or insurance accounting standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools.
