Motherboard Design Engineer

About the role

The Motherboard Design Engineer will lead the creation of in‑house server motherboards and related systems. Working closely with cross‑functional engineering teams and external partners, you will ensure robust, reliable, and high‑performance products for data‑center and IT infrastructure markets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end hardware development from concept through mass production.
• Design server motherboards, capture schematics, select components, and manage BOMs.
• Drive system‑level architecture, mechanical, power, and thermal design for data‑center products.
• Collaborate with firmware, software, mechanical, validation, and manufacturing teams.
• Work with ODMs, suppliers, and external partners to oversee design and manufacturing.
• Define and execute hardware validation, bring‑up, debugging, and system testing.
• Ensure compliance with electrical, thermal, and mechanical requirements.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and issue resolution throughout the product lifecycle.
• Support DVT and PVT phases to prepare for volume manufacturing.
• Maintain comprehensive design and validation documentation.

Required profile

• MSEE (CE) with 5+ years or BSEE with 7+ years of hardware design experience.
• 5‑10 years of relevant experience in server motherboard or high‑volume hardware design.
• Self‑motivated, results‑driven, and committed to delivering competitive, reliable products.

Required skills

• Server motherboard design, CPU interfaces (Intel/AMD), DDR memory subsystems, power delivery, high‑speed digital circuits.
• PCB and simulation tools: Altium, Cadence, SI/PI/Thermal analysis.
• Functional specifications development, design verification, testing, and root‑cause analysis.
• Lab experience with oscilloscopes and diagnostic equipment.
• x86 server architecture, 1U/2U/blade form factors, data‑center infrastructure.
• Windows/Linux OS, virtualization, cloud computing.
• BMC, IPMI, Redfish, JEDEC, PCI‑SIG, USB‑IF, SATA standards.
• Experience leading ODMs and suppliers through design and manufacturing cycles.
• High‑volume manufacturing and supply‑chain processes.
