Data Engineer - Platform & Analytics

About the role

We are looking for a Data Engineer – Platform & Analytics to join Zurich’s regional edge platform data team in Kuala Lumpur. The role supports digital business across Asia‑Pacific by delivering end‑to‑end data solutions, from application databases to data lakehouse platforms and business reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes across multiple source systems.
• Support and optimise cloud‑based data platforms, databases and lakehouse environments (AWS, Azure, Databricks).
• Build scalable data integration solutions and ensure data quality, reliability and operational excellence.
• Provide database administration, performance tuning, access management and troubleshooting for application databases.
• Implement data security, governance and compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into dashboards, analytical datasets and self‑service reporting solutions (Power BI).
• Contribute to data standards, monitoring, alerting and automation initiatives, including AI‑driven improvements.
• Participate in architecture reviews and platform improvement projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in data engineering, database development or analytics engineering.
• Proven ability to work in Agile delivery environments and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL development and query optimisation.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle and SQL Server.
• Building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Cloud data platforms – AWS, Azure, Databricks (Delta Lake, Spark).
• Reporting tools – Power BI.
• Version control – Git (and CI/CD/DevOps practices).
• Familiarity with AWS services (Glue, S3, Lambda, IAM).
• Exposure to AI‑assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot).
