Publication on Modelling Hot Shortness in Steels with Copper Impurities
University of Bristol
2025-02 - 2025-05
Submitted a manuscript to Materials Today Sustainability describing a coupled crystal‑plasticity, phase‑field fracture and diffusion simulation of hot shortness in steels with copper impurities, implemented with the MOOSE framework. Developed empirical models linking temperature, strain rate and thermal exposure to damage extent. Leveraged HPC resources to run optimisation algorithms for model calibration against literature material and fracture properties.
Aerodynamics Engineer
Bristol HyPower
2023-01 -
Simulated air‑brake deployment using Star CCM+ to obtain drag coefficient data and fine‑tune controller gains. Designed, manufactured and tested a carbon‑fibre wind‑tunnel model at the Bristol Composites Institute, collecting pressure readings on the body and fins. Performed launch and recovery trajectory and stability analysis with the Python package RocketPy.
Materials Science Summer Research Intern
Henry Royce Institute
2024-06 - 2024-08
Simulated copper precipitation and strengthening mechanisms in Python and compared results to literature, identifying a 22 % discrepancy in tensile strength. Conducted molecular dynamics simulations with LAMMPS on HPC clusters, demonstrating a ferrite tensile strength of 108 GPa, roughly half typical steel values.
Mechanical Engineer
Algo Peers
2023-12 - 2024-06
Authored instructional guides for STEM projects focused on sustainability, such as weather stations and wind turbines built with Raspberry Pi. Produced example scripts and CAD files to support student learning and project implementation.
